The event was sponsored by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, University of Maryland, Prince George’s County CVB, Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, and Port Towns CDC.
Highlights from the day
The Riversdale House Museum hosted the morning presentations where attendees learned about the War of 1812 in Prince George's County from noted Maryland War of 1812 historian Dr. Ralph Eshelman and Fort McHenry Chief of Interpretation Vince Vaise.
The tour included stops at the following sites:
- Bostwick (an historic house used by a British prisoner-of war agent during the War);
- Bladensburg Waterfront Park (near the site where the British crossed the Anacostia River during the Battle of Bladensburg); and
- Mount Calvert (the location where a detachment of British sailors landed to join the invading British army during their march to Bladensburg and Washington D.C.).
