With planning underway for the upcoming War of 1812 bicentennial, collaboration among Maryland stakeholders is essential.  To stimulate partnerships, the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission is presenting a series of conferences to familiarize stakeholders with the many sites, stories and organizations related to the War of 1812 in Maryland.   Conferences have already been held in Southern Maryland, Prince George’s County and the Head of the Bay region.   The remaining conferences will take place on the Eastern Shore, North Point and Baltimore in 2010.

Join us April 1 on the Upper Eastern Shore!

The day begins at the Kitty Knight House in Georgetown. Here attendees will learn about Upper Eastern Shore War of 1812 resources from Mary Margaret Revell Goodwin, Eastern Shore 1812 Consortium Executive Director.  Maryland War of 1812 historian Dr. Ralph Eshelman will address the battle of Caulk’s Field while Fort McHenry Ranger Scott Sheads will cover the skirmishes of Fredericktown and Georgetown.  Attendees will then go to Caulk’s Field, the site of an August 1814 battle.  The tour moves to the Mitchell House for lunch and a tour of the historic house where local tradition claims the mortally wounded Captain Peter Parker was taken after the Battle of Caulk’s Field.   Next stop will be afternoon tea at Bowlingly, the site of a British raid during the summer of 1813.  The final site will be Slippery Hill where American forces skirmished with British troops.
