Highlights of the day
 
The opening session at the Frederick Visitor Center featured presentations by Ralph Eshelman, a prominent Maryland War of 1812 author and historian, and Alan Gephardt, a ranger at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.
The tour included stops at the following sites:
  • Hessian Barracks (site where American troops were based during the war); 
  • Mt. Olivet Cemetery (where Francis Scott Key is buried);
  • Madison House (residence where James Madison sought refuge on Aug. 26, 1814, after the British sacked Washington D.C.); and
  • Harry Grove Stadium (home of the Frederick Keys).
